Tales from Granddad I: The Big Game

One foggy night, Kingsburg High played Selma High -- the biggest game of the year. These teams had been rivals for years and the cheerleaders led their farm-fed student populations with football cheers in Swedish.

Kingsburg kicked off. As Selma struggled for a first down, within minutes the ball carrier was tackled in the end zone. Safety. Two points.

For the remainder of the game, each team punted the ball through the fog while receivers ran around like ants looking up into the blur for it to come down.

The end of this story: Kingsburg 2, Selma 0.

Must've been thrilling.

Oh, come on, someone had to say it.

It even sounds funny in print. PS. Sorry we had to leave so suddenly. We are afraid of "Severe weather warnings"--smile.
