Magic Formula

Meet Quirky Heroine. She is hopelessly single/recently divorced/pining after the Unreachable.

Enter Mysterious Hero. He is a total jerk/too good to be true. Heroine and Hero part ways.

In a Random Coincidence, Heroine and Hero meet up again. They both tell white lies/omit certain truths so the Quirkiness/Mystery doesn't seem so bad/is endearing. They hook up.

After Montage of Sheer Delight, Quirkiness begins to show through and the dreadful Mystery is revealed. Angry accusations communicate betrayal of trust and nasty breakup ensues.

Another montage shows Hero toying with relic of Quirkiness and Heroine moving on with life, occasionally wiping away tears. Background Music communicates hurtful potential of misunderstood love.

Hero begins working on vast project, details of which are obscured. He shows up on Heroine's doorstep with apology and is rejected. He leaves a standing invitation for Heroine to come to project location/colludes with Heroine's Comic Best Friend to erect project in an Easily Discoverable Place.

Heroine discovers project, which is Fulfillment of her Wildest Dreams, and realizes own selfishness, but Hero is already on way drown sorrows in Remote Place for Extended Period of time. Heroine humiliates self in mad rush to airport/dock/station.

Hero hasn't quite left yet/changed mind at the last minute. Heroine catches Hero and breathlessly communicates Change of Heart. Long kiss indicates final reconciliation of Quirkiness with Mystery.

Works every time.

Because there is nothing new under the sun. We wouldn't be able to understand things if we didn't have boxes and categories to put them in.

It's late to comment on this and say "kudos" (well, I suppose, in veracity, compliments can never come tardily--or maybe they can; what think you?), but the Anthology staff had better award you the hundred smackers, or they don't deserve their positions. Brilliant piece of satirical wit.
